About Room & Board

Room & Board is an independent, 100% employee-owned American modern furniture and home decor retailer founded in 1980 by John Gabbert in Minneapolis, Minnesota, originally as a subsidiary of his parents' furniture company, Gabberts. The company partners with local manufacturing companies across the US to produce more than 90% of its furniture domestically, spanning living, dining, bedroom, bath, storage, office, lighting, rugs and outdoor categories, plus a 'Made for You' custom program (custom sectionals, tables, cabinets, bookcases, rugs and mirrors). Room & Board operates 21-22 stores across 12 states plus 13 distribution centers, offers $159 flat-rate full-service delivery, guaranteed everyday pricing (updated twice yearly, no inflated sales), free design services, and a Trade/For Business program. It is a Certified B Corporation and donates 2% of profits annually to environmental and social causes; in 2026 it was named the Home Furnishings Association's Retailer of the Year (50+ Employees).
