Our Story

About MADE

MADE (made.com) is a UK online furniture and homeware retailer selling design-led sofas, dining and living room furniture, garden furniture, lighting, soft furnishings and home accessories. The original Made.com was founded in 2010 as a direct-to-consumer design furniture disruptor, IPO'd on the London Stock Exchange in June 2021 at a £775 million valuation, then entered administration on 9 November 2022 amid falling consumer spending, rising import costs and supply chain pressures. British retailer Next plc acquired the Made.com brand name, domain and intellectual property for £3.4 million in the administration sale (no staff or factory relationships were retained). Next relaunched the Made.com website and app in August 2023 on its 'Next Total Platform,' the same infrastructure used for other Next-operated brands including Cath Kidston, Joules, Reiss and Victoria's Secret UK. The Soho showroom that defined the original brand did not reopen, and product design is now run through Next's home buying team rather than the original Made.com design partnerships.

2010

Made.com launched in March with £2.5 million in funding as a direct-to-consumer design furniture brand

2013

Made.com launches in France (January) and Italy (September)

2021

Made.com IPOs on the London Stock Exchange at a £775 million valuation (June)

2022

Made.com Design Ltd (MDL) enters administration on 9 November; Next plc acquires the brand name, domain and IP for £3.4 million the same week; approximately 500 jobs lost, no staff retained

2023

Next relaunches the Made.com website and app in August on the Next Total Platform

2026

Site operates as a Next-owned homeware brand with parent company 'Next Retail Limited' credited in site metadata
