Acana

ACANA is a premium pet food brand made by Champion Petfoods, founded in 1985 in the small town of Barrhead, Alberta, Canada. Champion Petfoods also makes ORIJEN, its more protein-dense sister brand, and both are manufactured in Champion's own kitchens using Fresh Regional Ingredients sourced primarily from featured Canadian ranchers, farmers and fishers. ACANA recipes are formulated with fresh or raw meat as the first two ingredients, positioned as 'biologically appropriate' nutrition inspired by what pets' ancestors would have eaten, and are offered across life stages (Puppy, Adult, Senior for dogs; Kitten, Adult, Senior for cats), special diets (Grain-Free, Grain-Inclusive/Wholesome Grains, Limited Ingredient, Small Breed, Large Breed), and protein types (Poultry, Fish, Red Meat for cats). In February 2023, Mars Petcare (part of Mars, Incorporated) completed its acquisition of Champion Petfoods, though Champion continues to operate as an independent business unit within Mars Pet Nutrition. Champion sells ORIJEN and ACANA in more than 90 countries, has produced over 5.5 billion pet meals in the last five years, and recently opened a $32 million Global Innovation and Discovery Centre at its NorthStar Kitchen in Acheson, Parkland County, Alberta. In India, ACANA is distributed through major pet retailers including Tails Nation and LoyalPetZone.
